So, I wanted to talk to you. About what... About what you could do during the flood.

[This is about the scariest thing she could do right now. She doesn't know Horatio that well, but she feels some responsibility here. And maybe she doesn't need to out herself? Maybe she can get through this just by being a concerned person who happens to be from that kind of world.]

I have something that I want to give to you. Can you stop by my room when you get a chance, Captain McCall?

[She grins, unable to stop herself as she teases him.]

That was a little bit of a weird experience. But it was... I don't know, compared to some of the other things that happen on the Barge, it wasn't that bad.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I don't just turn invisible like that, but I think it's natural to wonder about alternate universes. It was kinda cool to see at least one.

Oh.

[He stands, reaching out for the stones to roll them between his fingers. They look like rocks, like nothing special. His brow pulls together a little. It's not hard to remember what it was like, when she worked him on the other Barge: things just became so much more important. He closes his hand around them, and gives her a sheepish look.]

I might've told him a little, already.

[Stiles is his best friend, after all.] Is it just rock, or like, can you do it with anything? The charm, I mean.

No, it's just with different rocks like gemstones or even gravel, [she says, a little distracted.] You told him a little? How much is a little?

[Most of the basics, really, but. Scott pauses, searching her face.] Working, and how it, uh, works. And that you're a worker, and not to say anything about it. I'm - sorry, maybe I shouldn't have.

[It's both hard to be angry with Scott and hard not to be angry with him. Daneca feels a small amount of betrayal at this. She knows that's not what he meant to do. Stiles has obviously kept Scott's secret and been there for him every step of the way, but he hasn't been there like that for Daneca.]

You think? Scott, I know he's your best friend and I know you trust him, but that wasn't for you to tell. Okay, that--

[Daneca purses her lips, looking away from Scott and stopping herself before she can go much further.]

I trusted you not to tell anyone.

[He opens his mouth to interrupt but just winds up falling silent, letting it wash over him. It's so - it's so strange to parse. He and Stiles have always lived and breathed what the other does, what happens in the other's life, but does that justify it?

Scott looks down at his hands, at the stones in his palm. Obviously it doesn't.]

I - I know. I'm sorry, Daneca.

[Daneca sighs and sits down on her bed beside Scott, arms loosely folded in front of her.]

I can't forgive you. Not right now, [she admits.]

[Daneca brings her gaze back up to Scott for a moment before looking down at their feet.]

Just...don't tell anyone else, okay?

Maybe you shouldn't.

[His shoulders are hunched, and his hand closes around the charms she made.]

I mean - I want you to, but...I shouldn't have said anything. I probably would have freaked out big time, if it was me.

[He straightens, lifts his free hand like maybe he'll touch her, and thinks better of it.]

I won't tell anyone else. I swear.

[Daneca nods a little. Part of her feels like she's choosing to trust him to not say anything to anyone else because it was only one person and definitely the one person that mattered the most to him. Part of her feels like she has to trust him though because of some outside force she can't entirely name or describe.]

[She's quiet for a long while.]

He didn't freak out, did he?

No way. I told him it was okay.

[Which is just, how it is with them, even now. Scott trusts Stiles implicitly, and he's pretty sure it's the same the other way around. He falls silent, then smiles a little, looking over at her.]

He asked how badass you were. [Apparently he has a type.]

[Despite herself, she smiles. Only a little, but it's something.]

How much did you lie?

[It's enough to latch onto. He smiles back, a little cautious, but a smile.]

I didn't lie at all.

[Just a small puff of laughter that's brief and soft, but it's there. She can't forgive him right now, but she also can't stay mad at him. Daneca recognizes it could be worse and she remembers what Cassel said. One mistake doesn't undo or unmake it fact that Scott is genuinely a good person. A good person who happens to care about her.]

You're full of it.

[Daneca leans over and kisses the corner of his mouth.]

[His smile widens.]

Am not. I could have mentioned how you make me cry all the time, but I didn't want him to know I can be beaten in Need for Speed.

[Daneca slips her hand into Scott's free hand.]

That'll be our little secret.

[He threads his fingers through hers. Guilt lurks in his conscience, will keep lurking, but maybe it should. It'll be a reminder.]

I knew I liked you for a reason.

Just a reason?

[She raises a brow.]

[He tries hard not to grin.]

Do you want a list?

Do you have one?

It's top secret. Like, completely confidential.

[She grins.]

Worried it's gonna give me an ego?

[Scott nods solemnly. Or, well. He tries.]

Yes. Yes I am.

Well, I think you're a little late for that.

[She kisses his cheek for his effort at a solemn nod.]

[Okay, there's no stopping the grin now.]

Never mind. I think I like the ego.
