spam - entire port.
[She had been a little wary when the Admiral warned not to agitate the natives, thinking immediately of the last port and scrambling around trying to stay alive. But she's pleasantly surprised when she finds a peaceful forest and kind hosts.]
[Daneca sticks close to the village. The most camping she's ever done was spending the night out in her backyard in a tent when she was little so she knows she's not exactly the best person to be roughing it. She's made fast friends with some of the natives, helping them prepare food and do some other menial tasks around the village. But she also really enjoys playing with some of the younger ones, playing catch with a ball and teaching them how to play hide and seek. At some point, she lets them have her cell phone for a while and although they do nearly break it at one point, she teaches them how to take pictures and play games on it. That's right. Daneca's cell is going to have a lot of not!Ewok selfies.]
[Daneca doesn't stay in the village the whole time though. She does occasionally break away out to the pools of water. Stripping down to a bathing suit underneath her clothes, Daneca takes a dip and just relaxes while she's pretty sure there's no one else around. Once she's dried off, she goes for a small walk in the woods, marking the trees just in case so she can find her way back in time for supper.]

They'd tried teaching her how to throw axes and spears. They'd played with her hair with a kind of reverent fascination, working it into thin braids and crowning her with flowers. She'd even taught a few of them how to fistbump.
Now here it was, the last day before they had to head back to the ship, and she was sitting on the edge of one of the tree platforms, her legs dangling. Watching the natives go about their business in the space below, playing and working. One of them looked up and recognizing her made a happy chittering sound. She beamed and waved back.]
I'm going to kinda miss this place.

I know. I never thought I'd say that about any place the Barge would take us, but this has been really nice.
[She tilts her head.]
The Admiral probably wouldn't let us kidnap a few of them, would he?
[Although really it'd be more more unfair to the little guys than anything else. They are clearly not all that well-equipped to deal with emergencies. With the way things are on the Barge, they wouldn't last very long.]

This has definitely been my favorite thing that I think's happened so far.

[She rubs at the back of her neck.]
But I guess that's why this place isn't a vacation cruise liner.

Everyone is either on the ship because they're working towards getting something, or they're just being...worked on. Changing. Trying to graduate.
[She gets it now, she thinks. Being a prisoner means thinking of yourself as being locked in, in a place that's trying to keep you there. The Barge is set up the way it is because it wants her to leave.]

It's a lot of work for everyone. I don't think you'll ever hear anyone say it's easy.
[She shakes her head a little.]
I don't understand why some people want to stay.
[Daneca is, of course, thinking of Cassel. While she has to admit that she doesn't want to necessarily up and leave tomorrow, it's not the Barge that she doesn't want to leave. It's the people. But couldn't she find some other way? Some better place than this to be with them? Why hasn't Cassel tried the same?]

I understand it better than when I first got here. [She twists her neck again so she can look back at the other girl.] Maybe this is the best place they can think of. I don't know if I want to go back to where I came from.
But I still don't think I want to live on the ship.
