[Daneca comes to easily enough and at first, it doesn't set right in that she's been asleep for all this time. It's not until she picks up the communicator that she notices the disparity in time and covers her mouth in silent shock. Daneca spends time flipping through some of the network posts as she is wont to always do her research/homework.]
[Timidly, she turns the feed on.]
So, um, I obviously missed a few things. I was in one of those comas and from the looks of it for about a month. Sorry if I worried anyone. I think I'm okay though. I don't feel groggy or anything like that, which is weird. I'm glad things were relatively quiet for around here. No zombies or anything like that.
[She smiles faintly.]
Anyway, I guess we also have some new people while I was out. My name's Daneca. Sorry I wasn't able to say hi when you first arrived.
private - cassel.
Are you okay?
[The underlying question being, of course, did you do anything stupid while she was out cold.]
private - scott.
I saw the network. Are you... Do you need anything?
private - bond.
You didn't poison yourself with alcohol while I was asleep, did you?

[This was not typical vet work, Scott....]

[He still does not even.]

...Werelizard...
[She shakes her head.]
You know, Scott, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but your world is really, really weird.

Yeah, I noticed. It's called a kanima, actually. He wanted to be a werewolf, and Derek bit him, but....sometimes the shape you take reflects who you are inside.
He probably should have just turned into a giant dick in that case, but I don't make the rules.
[He can see the trees growing less densely; they're almost on the lake. He tries not to slow his pace.]
It worked out okay, though. He wound up a werewolf.
spam
I can't imagine someone wanting to be a werewolf. [Daneca shakes her head a little.] Not that there's anything wrong with it. Obviously. But I just mean it caused you a lot of problems. You'd think someone would want to try and avoid all of that.

Jackson just....wanted to be the best at everything he did. I don't know. He had some issues with his parents - he found out he was adopted and I guess that messed with him.
[He is slightly sympathetic; Scott doesn't hate Jackson, he just really doesn't want to be buddies.]
He saw what I could do after, and he wanted it. I mean, I went from asthmatic second-stringer to star of the lacrosse team. He didn't believe me about any of the other stuff, or he thought he could handle it better, or whatever. It didn't go like he planned. ...Obviously.

So how many different kind of were-animals are there? There aren't like...werebears are there?

I have no idea. There's so much more than I thought there was. My boss, the vet? He's a druid. So is his sister, who was our freaking guidance counselor. There was an alpha pack, a darach, banshees, kitsunes...
[He trails off there, presses his lips together and looks out at the lake. Big pond? It's more of a pond.]
You're right, it's totally weird. Daneca, I need to tell you something.

What is it, Scott?

When I was home - a lot happened, obviously. Allison broke up with me months ago, and--
[His mouth dries up for a moment, and he pauses to swallow, wet his lips with a dry tongue, anything. It's like swallowing sandpaper.]
There was this big fight, these things we couldn't stop. We were trying to save our friends, and Allison...
[He swallows hard again. He doesn't know how to word it, because it never feels like enough, no matter how he says it.]
She figured out how to kill them, she figured the whole thing out, but - they killed her. [It still doesn't sound real.]

[She was wondering what was eating away at him underneath the surface. What it was that he was holding to himself and trying to find a way to tell her. Daneca had no idea what it could be, but this never crossed her mind. His girlfriend died. His girlfriend died and here she is flirting with him and holding his hand and--
[No.]
[Daneca tells herself firmly that this isn't about her. This is about Scott and this is about Allison.]
[She swallows and exhales sharply, blinking back the wetness in her eyes when she looks back up at Scott. Daneca lets go of Scott's hand, rising somewhat on her tiptoes to throw her arms around his neck.]
I'm sorry, Scott, [she says, barely above a whisper.]
[Daneca cradles the back of his head with a hand.] I'm so sorry.
spam
For a while, he doesn't say anything. Maybe it's selfish, and if it is, right now he doesn't care. He wants this comfort, he wants someone to hold him and understand and just be here. That it's Daneca makes it...more. He doesn't want to let her go.]
It shouldn't have been her. [It shouldn't have been any of them. He has to swallow hard to keep talking.] I'm sorry. I didn't want to dump this on you, but I - I wanted you to know. [Because he knows he's not acting like himself. He's not sure how to act like himself.]
spam
No, it's okay. [Daneca shakes her head a little.] I'm glad you told me.
[She gives one last little squeeze before letting go and falling back down on her feet. Daneca keeps her hands on Scott's upper arms though.]
Are you going to make a deal for her?
spam
Yeah. I don't - I don't want to learn to get used to the idea of her being gone.
[His voice doesn't break, but it does threaten to.] Not if I can do something. Not if I can change it.
spam
You'll bring her back, Scott.

One hand leaves her waist, palm sliding over her neck and cheek instead, and it's not the perfect moment to kiss her. He already passed that up. It might actually be the worst moment to kiss her, but he realizes he doesn't want to wait anymore. He was falling for her the whole time he was here.
Scott leans in, brushing his lips against hers. He lets it set aside his guilt over Allison, over Kira, lets it settle on him because she's so confident in him and he loves her for it.]
spam
[This is probably the worst time he could have picked to kiss her. Daneca's confused and she's scared. She doesn't know if Scott is kissing her right now because of her or because he's upset and he needs someone to lean on. She wants... She wants to be someone he can lean on. She wants to help him in whatever she can. But Daneca wants to know that he's kissing her because he wants to kiss her. Not because he's grieving. But she can't ignore the way the butterflies begin to flutter in her chest and that lightheaded feeling of contentment.]
[Daneca feels like she's been waiting for him to kiss her for months now and she's finally gotten what she wants.]
[And all she wants so much is to be enough.]
[Daneca returns the kiss, leaning into Scott as one hand holds onto his shoulder and her other arm wraps around his neck.]
spam
He's always going to love Allison. She was the first person he ever really loved, and for so long it felt like he'd never love anyone else. But that's not true, and it hasn't been in a long time.
Allison was his anchor. Now, he mostly knows how to be his own anchor. It's not that he doesn't miss her, because he does: but he'd regret it for the rest of his life, if he didn't let Daneca know how important she's become to him.
Scott drops his arms to her waist again, lifting her up instead of making her stand on her toes. She is enough, just the way she is.]

[When the kiss ends, she's smiling and resting her forehead against his. It's a little bit of a shy smile with a little insecurity, but it's mostly just brimming with happiness. She knows she should probably say something. They should probably be talking about this. But for right now, Daneca just wants to be in the moment. She just wants to feel this as it as regardless of how simultaneously unsure and at home she feels.]
spam
It has to, obviously, but he makes it last, and when he does open his eyes, he's still smiling a little.]
Sorry. I could've timed that better.
spam
Probably. [A pause.] But I'm glad you did it anyway.

I'd totally ask you on a date, but the Barge is kind of short a movie theater or something.
